Winners announced as schools honour Anzacs

The Hon Matt Keogh MP
Minister for Veterans' Affairs
Minister for Defence Personnel

110 years after the first Anzacs landed on the shores of Gallipoli, Australian students continue to share their stories and those of Australian personnel in the century since.

Fourteen schools from across the country will share in $39,000 in prize money for their winning submissions in the 2025 Anzac Day Schools’ Awards.

Each year, schools are encouraged to engage with veterans and current serving personnel, as they study a theme within Australia’s wartime history and then present their learnings in creative and meaningful ways.

This year’s theme was ‘Remembering Gallipoli: 110 years’ and students did a wonderful job honouring the original Anzacs through a variety of mediums, from dioramas, to websites, to portraits.

Nagle College Students who took out the national award were inspired after meeting a local Second World War Veteran, creating a series of detailed diaries, letters, journals, biographies and notebooks to retell the stories of local Gallipoli veterans.

I would like to thank all the schools that entered the Awards this year and acknowledge the hard work, dedication and high standard of entries by students and their teachers.

The 2026 Anzac Day Schools’ Awards are now open and will close on 28 May 2026. The theme is ‘Women in Service’ and schools are encouraged to reflect on the extraordinary ways Australian women have served our country.

For more information on the 2026 Awards and how to enter, visit the Anzac Portal.
