Expanding services for veterans and their families in Tasmania
The Hon Matt Keogh MP
Minister for Veterans' Affairs
Minister for Defence Personnel
Senator Anne Urquhart
Senator for Tasmania
Veterans and families in Tasmania’s north west will now have better access to services and support following the opening of the Burnie Veterans’ and Families’ Centre.
Established by the North West Tasmanian Veteran Welfare Board, this specialised Hub will provide a range of services with a particular focus on health and wellness support, facilitated by general practitioners on site.
The Hub will also take its services on the road, operating a mobile outreach clinic for veterans living all over the north and north west of the state.
The Hub is open to all current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members, including reservists, and their families.
The Burnie Veterans’ and Families' Centre was made possible through a $2.2 million grant from the Albanese Government, part of national Veterans’ and Families' Hub program.
For more information about Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs, visit the Department of Veterans' Affairs website.
Quotes attributable to the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Matt Keogh:
“Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs provide a space for veterans’ services and advocacy groups to provide wrap-around support for veterans and their families. The Burnie Veterans’ and Families’ Centre will ensure those living in north west Tasmania have access to comprehensive support, close to home.
“We don’t want to see veterans having to travel to the mainland to access essential support services. Veterans deserve localised care close to home.
“This is just one way the Australian Government is connecting veterans and families to the core services they need every day.”
Quotes attributable to Senator for Tasmania, Anne Urquhart:
“The Burnie Veterans’ and Families’ Centre is a welcome addition to our local community and will expand the tailored support available to veterans and families in the area.
“Those who serve in the ADF make great sacrifices in service of our nation. They deserve the very best services in return.”
