Continuing Commitment to Veteran Employment
The Hon Matt Keogh MP
Minister for Veterans' Affairs
Minister for Defence Personnel
As the hearings for the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide conclude, the Albanese Government remains focused on supporting veterans’ transition to civilian life.
One of the key factors to having a successful transition is finding fulfilling civilian work post service.
The Australian Government is renewing the Veteran Employment Commitment asking civilian organisations to more clearly demonstrate how they are supporting veterans in the workplace.
Organisations that sign up to the Veteran Employment Commitment will now need to demonstrate what they’re doing to support veterans into civilian employment, through recruitment, support and leadership in the workplace.
The Commitment also includes an assurance businesses will not encourage current serving ADF members to leave service.
Ultimately this commitment seeks to assist veterans to better identify organisations that are appropriate for them, with businesses demonstrating their workplace policies and programs specifically targeted at helping veterans perform at their best.
Nominations are now open for the 2024 Prime Minister’s National Veteran Employment Awards, which will celebrate leading veteran employers and employees.
These awards will identify talented individuals and organisations working to ensure veterans and their partners thrive upon their transition out of the Australian Defence Force.
Veterans provide invaluable contributions to the civilian workforce and these awards highlight their achievements as well as the organisations that recognise and support them.
Nominations for the 2024 Awards are open now and close on 31 May 2024.
