The Australian Government is investing in a better future for veterans and their families, improving support for totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) Veterans.

The Government has passed the Veterans' Affairs Legislation Amendment (Budget Measures) Bill 2022 in the Senate.

This means from 1 January 2023, TPI Veterans will receive a $1,000 annual increase to the rate of their pension.

Minister for Veterans Affairs Matt Keogh said this delivers on a key election commitment by Labor, following through on a bipartisan inquiry recommendation to improve the rate of the TPI payment.

“This modest increase could have been achieved last year, benefiting some 27,000 TPI Veterans and their families, but typical of the all-announcement no-delivery games of the previous Liberal-National government, they never followed through,”

“It was just another slap in the face for our most severely injured veterans.”

“We’re delivering on a $1,000-a-year increase to the special rate of disability pension, an increase of $38.46 per fortnight to ensure veterans and their families are better supported financially, helping keep up with cost-of-living pressures.” Minister Keogh said.

The Government is committed to providing practical services and supports to Defence personnel, veterans and families to ensure a better future for the veteran community.
