Minister Gee Statement – Townsville accident

Monday, August 30 2021

The Hon Andrew Gee MP
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs
Minister for Defence Personnel

The news that two soldiers lost their lives today at Dotswood, near Townsville in Queensland is tragic and devastating.

I would like to extend my deepest and heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and serving soldiers who are grieving at this time.

Our men and women of the ADF undertake enormous risks everyday here at home and around the world.

On behalf of our nation we are grateful to all members of the ADF and our veterans for their service and commitment to Australia.

I would acknowledge the actions of those first responders at the scene who rendered immediate assistance.

I urge any veteran or their families who need to talk to someone to contact Open Arms – Veterans and Families Counselling Service on 1800 011 046 for free 24/7 counselling and support.
