MEDIA RELEASE

Grants support veterans and their communities

MORE than $640,000 will be provided to community groups supporting veterans under the latest round of the Veteran and Community Grants program announced by Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Michael McCormack today.

"The Coalition Government is investing in local organisations working to meet the needs of veterans in their community through 39 grants," Mr McCormack said.

"The grants are funding a diverse range of local projects and equipment, including social opportunities for veterans and furnishing a drop in centre.

"As a nation we must never forget the service and sacrifice of the men and women who serve in the defence of our nation."

Mr McCormack said the benefits of the Veteran and Community Grants funding will flow on to the local community, which has contributed to making this invaluable project a reality.

"I congratulate all successful applicants, the funding will help support practical and tangible projects that will enrich the lives of many people who have served this country," Mr McCormack said.

"The dedication and hard work of these organisations ensure veterans retain their independence, services, support and opportunities within their local communities continue.

"I encourage ex-service and community organisations, veteran representative groups, private organisations and projects that promote improved independence and quality of life for veterans to consider applying for future funding through the Veteran and Community Grants program."

From February 2018, Veteran and Community Grants will be available through the Australian Government’s Community Grants Hub.
