Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience travelling exhibition opens in Hobart today

The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience travelling exhibition officially opened in Hobart today. The interactive experience includes more than 200 artefacts normally housed at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

“The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience is the flagship community event of the Anzac Centenary national programme, and provides an opportunity for people in cities and regional Australia to mark the most significant commemorative period in our nation’s history,” Minister Robert said.

“The travelling exhibition was embraced by audiences in Launceston when it landed in Tasmania earlier this month, with many people saying it was one of the best exhibitions they had ever seen.”

Hobart is the third of 23 locations the Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience will visit between September 2015 and April 2017, with the Derwent Entertainment Centre hosting the experience from Wednesday 14 October – Tuesday 20 October 2015.

The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience includes a community zone that enables local communities to uncover the contribution made by their men and women – both those who served and the families and loved ones who remained at home.

The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience is a free event but bookings are essential as places are limited. Bookings for individuals and for groups of up to thirty people can be made at www.spiritofanzac.gov.au.

The travelling exhibition is intended to improve understanding of Australia’s wartime experience, its impacts and its lessons, to carry forward the Anzac spirit and values.

More information, including the tour itinerary, is available at www.spiritofanzac.gov.au.
