Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience travelling exhibition open in Bendigo

The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience travelling exhibition has officially opened in Bendigo. The interactive experience includes more than 200 artefacts normally housed at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

“The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience is the flagship community event of the Anzac Centenary national program, and provides an opportunity for people in cities and regional Australia to mark Australia’s most significant commemorative period to date,” Minister Robert said.

“The travelling exhibition has been embraced by audiences, with many people saying it is one of the best exhibitions they have ever seen.”

Bendigo is the fifth location the Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience has visited since launching in September 2015, with the Bendigo Exhibition Centre hosting the experience from Thursday 26 November – Wednesday 2 December 2015.

The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience includes a community zone that enables local communities to uncover the contribution made by their men and women. A special feature of the Bendigo community zone is a collection of photographs taken by brothers Jack and Bert Grinton, who fought with the 38th Battalion in the First World War.

The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience is a free event but bookings are essential as places are limited. Bookings for individuals and for groups can be made at www.spiritofanzac.gov.au.

The travelling exhibition is intended to improve understanding of Australia’s wartime experience, its impacts and its lessons, to carry forward the Anzac spirit and values.

More information, including the tour itinerary, is available at www.spiritofanzac.gov.au.
