COMMUNITY GRANTS ENHANCE VETERANS’ LIVES

The Government has awarded almost $600,000 to ex-service organisations around Australia to support grass roots projects that will enhance the lives of many in the veteran community.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson said he was pleased to support 28 grants that would directly benefit veterans and their families.

“Funding provided under the Veteran and Community Grants program enables organisations across the country to continue to offer a range of activities, programs and services that enrich the quality of life of our veterans and their families,” Senator Ronaldson said.

This round of grants will fund a diverse range of projects and equipment, including ex‑service club kitchen and bathroom renovations, mobility assistance improvements, installation of air conditioning, and tools for community gardening.

Other grants will help veterans to stay in touch and reduce social isolation by funding bus trips, new computers to produce member newsletters and a new bowling green.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Veteran and Community Grants program funds projects that support activities and services to sustain or enhance the health and wellbeing of the veteran community. For more information or to apply visit the DVA website (www.dva.gov.au/grants).

Editor’s note: A list of grant recipients in each state is attached. In accordance with the Commonwealth Grant Rules and Guidelines, approved grants will be added to the list on the DVA website within 14 days of the funding agreement between DVA and the organisation taking effect.
