Today the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of Anzac, Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson, opened the Aberfoyle Park Primary School Anzac Memorial.

The memorial, which includes a bronze plaque inscribed with the names of the local men who served in the First World War, is accessible to community members who wish to honour their service and sacrifice.

“I am so pleased to see the Aberfoyle Park Primary School community actively involved in the Anzac Centenary, and generously creating a site that is accessible for members of the local community,” Senator Ronaldson said.

Funding of $8,310, provided through the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program (ACLGP), supported the school’s efforts to provide a site for the school community to hold remembrance ceremonies throughout the year.

The grants program provides each federal MP with up to $125,000 to support community-based commemoration of the First World War. The Boothby electorate has been awarded 15 ACLGP grants totalling $105,888 ex GST ($114,100 inc GST).

“The Centenary of Anzac will be the most significant period of commemoration in our nation’s history and the government is committed to providing opportunities for all Australians to participate,” Senator Ronaldson said.

“During the Centenary we not only remember the ANZACS who served in the First World War, but also commemorate a century of service by Australian servicemen and women in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations in which Australia has been involved.”
