AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS CRESWICK VETERANS

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of ANZAC, Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson, today officially opened the new entrance and disability ramp at the Creswick-Smeaton RSL in Victoria.

The opening, supported by more than $15,000 from the Veteran and Community Grants Programme, coincides with the local community’s Centenary of Anzac commemorations.

“The Veteran and Community Grants programme assists ex-service organisations in their ongoing commitment to providing high quality services and support to the veteran and defence communities and their families,” Senator Ronaldson said.

“This grant has provided funding to construct a disabled ramp at the front of the clubrooms at the RSL and is part of the construction of a new entrance to the club. The refurbishment will allow the sub-branch to sustain, and expand upon, the programmes and activities for its members.

“The continuation of community activities, programmes and projects will enrich the lives of Australian veterans, war widows, widowers and their families and help them, especially the elderly, to remain independent, healthy and active.”

The Minister encouraged eligible groups to consider how a grant may help deliver care and support to their local veteran and defence communities and to apply for funding in the next round.
