GRANTS HELP COMMUNITIES HONOUR OUR SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN

Today I announce more than $178,000 in funding for community projects honouring Australia’s servicemen and women.

The Australian Government funding, provided under the Saluting Their Service grants programme, will assist 68 veteran and Defence community organisations across Australia to complete projects that pay tribute to men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

I am pleased to provide this funding to communities across Australia, from Currumbin in the north to Launceston in the south and across to Perth in the west to conduct commemorative activities that will help them in remembering the contribution of our servicemen and women in over a century of service.

Projects funded through the most recent round of grants include installing plaques and honour boards, displaying memorabilia, building or restoring memorials, holding commemorative events and producing commemorative books that highlight specific areas of military history.

The Saluting Their Service grants programme, administered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, is designed to preserve our wartime heritage and to involve people throughout the nation in a wide range of activities and projects.

During the Centenary of Anzac, we mark a century of service and sacrifice, encompassing all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations in which Australians have been involved.  The Centenary will be the most significant period of commemoration in our nation’s history and the Government is committed to providing opportunities for all Australians to participate.

More information about accessing Saluting Their Service grants can be found by visiting www.dva.gov.au/grants or calling 133 254 or 1800 555 254 from regional Australia.

Editor’s note: A list of grant recipients in each state is attached. All figures are GST inclusive. In accordance with the Commonwealth Grant Rules and Guidelines, approved grants will be added to the list on the DVA website within 14 days of the funding agreement between DVA and the organisation taking effect.
