Legacy Week, which commences today, is an annual reminder of the work carried out by this great Australian organisation to assist the families of those who have served and sacrificed for their country.

Legacy was established by returned veterans from the First World War who promised to keep the torch alight for the children and families of deceased and wounded veterans. Today, they help hundreds and thousands of widows, children and orphans whose parents have served their nation.

Legacy’s annual fundraising campaign has been running since 1942 and provides continuous support to around 90,000 widows and 1,900 children as well as people with disabilities Australia-wide. This support includes essential services such as, counselling, special housing, medical assistance, advocacy and social support.

Throughout Legacy Week, I encourage Australians to keep in mind that fundraising for this worthy cause provides critical support to ensure veterans’ families receive the support they need.

Australian current and ex-service personnel have always been able to count on the support of Legacy for their families, support that is invaluable, and as imperative today as it has been in the past.

I encourage all Australians to support Legacy so it can continue its good work now and into the future. You can contribute by buying a badge, donating or even volunteering to participate in the appeal by selling Legacy badges in your local community.

Legacy merchandise will be available at selected badge selling points and from volunteers around the nation. To donate to Legacy, or to find out more about Legacy Week or the work that Legacy does, visit:
