ANZAC CENTENARY PUBLIC FUND RECOMMENDATIONS

I am pleased to announce $7.45 million in funding from the Anzac Centenary Public Fund to support the commemoration of the Centenary of Anzac in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.

The Australian Government is proud to support state and territory governments, local communities and Australians across the nation through the Anzac Centenary programme.  Through donations to the Anzac Centenary Public Fund, we are able to provide funding for projects across the country that honour the service of local men and women.

The Government has adopted the recommendations of the Anzac Centenary Public Fund Board to support the following projects:

  • $0.35 million for the Queensland Remembers Gallery and Exhibition towards a new permanent exhibition gallery at the Queensland Museum and Sciencentre, South Bank, Brisbane;
  • $3 million for Victoria’s Shrine of Remembrance towards providing new education and exhibition facilities, as well as housing a landing boat from Gallipoli, troopship Devanha. The redevelopment is complete and has been underwritten by the Napthine Government;
  • $3 million for Hyde Park Memorial in NSW towards the redevelopment of the Memorial including an Education and Interpretation Centre beneath the Memorial and a cascade water feature; and
  • $1.1 million for Tasmania’s Hobart Soldiers’ Memorial Avenue, one of three elements in the restoration and development of Hobart’s commemorative precinct.

The Centenary of Anzac will be one of Australia’s most important periods of national commemoration, providing all Australians the opportunity to reflect, remember and commemorate the service and sacrifice of more than two million Australians who have served in the Australian Defence Force and those on the home front who have cared for and supported them.

The Government appreciates the generous support of corporate donors to support the work of the Anzac Centenary Public Fund, together with the assistance of Mr Lindsay Fox AC to coordinate donations.
