GOVERNMENT WELCOMES WITHDRAWAL OF TRADEMARK APPLICATION FOR ‘THE DIGGERS’
The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister for Defence Science and Personnel Warren Snowdon today welcomed Warner Music Australia’s announcement to withdraw its trademark application for the term “The Diggers”“It is pleasing to see that Warner Music appreciates the significance of this term to Australians as part of our wartime heritage,” Minister Snowdon said.
The Minister had instructed the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to send a letter to the Registrar of Trade Marks to highlight the Government’s concerns about registering this term – these concerns were shared by Army.
“The term belongs to the Australian men and women who served our country – not to a single entity. This term holds special significance in our cultural and military history – as it describes the Australian soldier who served our country in the First World War,” Minister Snowdon said.
"I thank Warner Music for its swift action in withdrawing the application," he said.
